Description
A shield-shaped embroidered device 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width overall consisting of a scarlet shield charged with a black stylized lion’s head surmounted by a black dagger point up with the word “AIRBORNE” in scarlet letters above upon a black embowed tab, all within a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border.
Symbolism
The shield indicates a strong defense and represents the command structure of the organization, its three sides symbolizing its missions on land, sea, and in the air. The lion’s head symbolizes courage, strength, and determination applied with wisdom and intelligence. The black dagger recalls the mission and heritage of Special Operations. Red symbolizes courage, fortitude, and sacrifice; black denotes determination and constancy.
