Description
An embroidered shield-shaped item blazoned as follows: Per fess Sable and Celeste, in chief a sphinx Or and in base a demi-globe of the second, edged and gridlined of the first issuant from the line of division, overall a dagger erect Proper; all within a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) Yellow border. Overall dimensions are 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width and 3 1/8 inches (7.94 cm) in length.
Symbolism
Oriental blue is the color traditionally associated with the Military Intelligence units. The black signifies the Special Operation Forces support operations. The sphinx, symbol of Military Intelligence, denotes observation, wisdom, and discreet silence. The globe symbolizes the Army wide and unit’s global mission. The dagger alludes to the aggressive and protective requirement and the element of physical danger inherent on the responsibilities of the unit.

The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved as an exception to policy by HQDA, G-1 and authorized on 21 September 2007. (TIOH Drawing Number A-1-942)
