Description
On a blue vertical rectangle arched at top and bottom with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border, 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height and 2 inches (5.08 cm) in width overall, a yellow wedge with apex at top center and centered thereon a scarlet spearhead.
Symbolism
Yellow is the color traditionally associated with Armor. Blue and scarlet are the branch colors for Infantry and Artillery respectively, the other major combat forces in the Brigade. The spearhead and wedge shape allude to the spearhead tactic employed in Armor warfare.
Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally approved for the 177th Armor Brigade on 9 April 1985. It was amended to correct the unit designation to 177th Armored Brigade on 9 December 1997. (TIOH Dwg. No. A-1-707)
