Description
On a shield-shaped embroidered device edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) Silver Gray border blazoned as follows: Celeste, issuant from base a sunburst Or, superimposed in base by an olive wreath Proper, surmounted by two swords in pile reversed points up, blades and hand guards Argent (Silver Gray), hilt and pommel Sable resting on the wreath, bearing a chess knight of the last. Overall dimensions are 2 3/8 inches (6.03 cm) by 3 inches (7.62 cm).

Symbolism
Oriental blue and silver gray are the colors traditionally associated with Military Intelligence units. The shield-shape of the patch derives from the Allied Command Operations patch, symbolizes the unit’s mission to shield their allies from danger through their operations. The sunburst represents the impressive counterintelligence heritage, highlighting their unique relationship with the Supreme Allied Commander Europe. The rays allude to the quill points, combined with the swords and olive wreath suggest the organization’s unique nature as the only multi-national counterintelligence unit assigned to Allied Command Operations. The chess knight, a symbol of counterintelligence, denotes the ability for the Group to move strategically while maintaining the control to check or deter any hostile infiltration or advancement.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved as an exception to policy by the G-1 and authorized for wear on 3 April 2006. (TIOH Dwg. No. A-1-889)
