Description
An oriental blue rectangle arched at top and bottom 2 inches (5.08 cm) in width and 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height overall with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) silver gray border bearing a crossed yellow lightning flash and sword surmounted by a blue globe gridlined and outlined silver gray, and overall a yellow torch with red flame.

Symbolism
Oriental blue and silver gray are traditionally associated with U.S. Army Military Intelligence. The sword signifies vigilance; the lightning flash alludes to electronic communications and speed. The globe symbolizes worldwide service. The torch and flame signify knowledge.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally approved for the 500th Military Intelligence Brigade on 27 February 1989. It was cancelled on 13 February 2004. The insignia was reinstated with the description updated for the 500th Military Intelligence Brigade effective 21 September 2010. (TIOH Dwg. No. A-1-761)
